Motor problems can be mechanical, electrical, thermal, or magnetic:
- Overloads – too large a load on the motor can cause excess heat to be generated. This will trip the thermal overload sensor in the motor and cause the drive to shut down.
- Dirt – will often cause overheating as will poor circulation in or around the motor. Clean the motor and surrounding structure. Check the attached fan assembly (if present) for obstructions. Check the coolant channels (if present) for obstructions and mineral buildup.
- Moisture – can cause insulation breakdown resulting in insulation breakdown. Check humidity levels around the motor and adjust if possible. Look for drips that could be entering the motor housing.
