Motor Circuit Testing Can Save Your
Manufacturing Facility Costly Down Time

There are many factors that can stop production in a manufacturing facility but one of the easiest to predict is an electric motor failure. Heat, moisture, solvents and fluids can damage the circuits over time, resulting in a breakdown of the motor’s insulation system. Coil windings of wire in electric motors can experience heat deterioration, become wet or dirty or become exposed to other contaminants. This can create a pathway to ground that, left untreated, will eventually become strong enough to ground, open or short the circuit.

The field service department at Whelco Industrial can perform testing on your winding insulation. Our course of action utilizes a test that introduces high voltage, low current into the leads of electrical equipment. We then analyze any leakage of current through the existing insulation. The primary visit establishes a baseline measurement for future testing. After a period of time, the same piece of equipment is tested again to see if any leakage or breakdown has occurred. If there is an increased measurement, the experienced technicians at Whelco will advise the customer on a plan of action which may include removing, repairing and/or re-installing the equipment, avoiding potentially disastrous and expensive downtime.
