Motor problems can be mechanical, electrical, thermal, or magnetic:
- Friction due to dry or failed bearings – need to inspect, lubricate or replace as necessary.
- Bent or warped shaft – rotate motor shaft and look for elliptical path as the armature/rotor turns or wear marks on the armature/rotor from contact with the motor windings.
- Excessive or Constrained loads – check for free movement of armature/rotor and compare to design specifications.
